Writer's Craft Workshop - September
Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Some writing books become classics for a reason.
Join us for the first installment of our quarterly Writing Craft Book Series, where we'll explore influential books on the craft of writing together. Rather than simply reading these books independently, we'll break down their key concepts, discuss how they apply to modern writing, and complete practical exercises designed to help you immediately strengthen your own work.
Our first workshop focuses on On Writing Well by William Zinsser, one of the most respected books ever written on clear, engaging nonfiction writing. While originally written with nonfiction writers in mind, Zinsser's principles of clarity, simplicity, voice, and purposeful writing have influenced generations of authors across every genre.
During this interactive workshop, we will:
• Explore the major concepts presented in On Writing Well
• Discuss how Zinsser's advice applies to today's writers
• Complete guided writing exercises adapted from the book
• Learn techniques for writing with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose
• Discuss practical ways to incorporate these lessons into your own projects
Whether you're a novelist, memoirist, essayist, blogger, or freelance writer, this workshop will give you practical tools for creating cleaner, stronger, more engaging prose.
Please Note: Reading On Writing Well before class is encouraged but not required. Participants will receive guided instruction and exercises throughout the workshop, making it valuable whether you've read the book cover-to-cover or are being introduced to it for the first time.
Leave with fresh insights, practical techniques, and renewed confidence in your writing.
